Abstract

Conventional guzheng teaching has long faced structural problems such as limited teaching space, delayed feedback in teacher-student interaction, and insufficient multisensory immersion. To address these issues, this study develops and applies an immersive teaching environment for guzheng performance based on virtual reality (VR), and systematically explains the technical architecture, interaction mechanism, and teaching process of its main modules. A complete teaching environment is constructed by integrating hand posture capture, audio-visual synchronization, virtual instrument modeling, real-time audiovisual feedback, and task-sequence-driven practice. From an engineering perspective, the system also relies on stable sensor signal acquisition, low-latency wireless interaction, and synchronized information transmission, which are important for maintaining immersion and interaction continuity in VR-based music education. An eight-week teaching intervention involving 30 beginner guzheng learners was conducted under a controlled experimental design. The results show that the experimental group significantly outperformed the control group in fingering standardization, with an average score 22.4 points higher; rhythmic stability, with the average deviation reduced by 54.4 ms; and intrinsic learning motivation, which increased by 37.5%. The proposed VR teaching environment can partially mitigate the increased cognitive load caused by multisensory digital instruction through adaptive feedback mechanisms, enhance motor retention, and provide empirical evidence and a technical route for the digital reconstruction of guzheng teaching and other instrumental music education scenarios supported by immersive interaction and wireless sensing technologies.
